Tholoan'a Lerato

Agricultural and vocational training centre

 Background information:

Tholoan'a Lerato is a project in Masite which focuses on agricultural production and training. It responds to the needs of local disadvantaged children, many of these youths have academic problems meaning that they can not go any further in their educational careers.  This project gives them an opportunity to develop new skills which will in turn help them to become self-sufficient.

Lesotho Save The Children is in the process of reviving Tholoan'a Lerato to its full capabilities, we are being sponsored by World Vision-Global fund to revive the poultry and piggery projects.  LSC have also come to an agreement with a local farmer to help revive the crop production.  As Tholoan'a Lerato grows it will develop other skills such as leather works and solar technology.  Other animals such as fish and ducks will be added as this project extends.

Latest update:

The pig sty's are now complete and on the 4th August 2005 we had a delivery of 2 pigs! The pigs will be used to mate, and the piglets will be sold to generate income for Tholoana Lerato and LSC.

1,200 laying chickens will arrive at Tholoana Lerato on the 8th August 2005.

We shall be purchasing a water tank very shortly for the storage of water for the animals, crops and people at Tholoana Lerato.
